What educators are saying

I used this activity in my personal finance class and the students loved it! Who doesn't like throwing a party especially on a budget!

Description

This Planning a Holiday Dinner Party on a Budget lesson is a great activity to do before Thanksgiving or Christmas/Winter break. A great personal finance lesson for young consumers in a Personal Finance or Family and Consumer Science (FCS) class!

Includes two EDITABLE files with the same activity - the only difference is one is a FRIENDSGIVING theme and the other is a FRIENDSMAS theme (so you can do this activity around either Thanksgiving or Christmas.)

When I did this activity with my students, they were so engaged and focused on making decisions and shopping for the best choices to stay within their budget. They loved it!

Content Covered:

  • Comparison Shopping
  • Shopping within a Budget (make the budget whatever you want)
  • How much food should you buy?

This resource file includes:

  • A 6-page interactive Friendsgiving Google Slide File (or convert to Microsoft PowerPoint)
  • A 6-page interactive Friendsmas Google Slide File (or convert to Microsoft PowerPoint)
  • Both files have instructional pages for the teacher to go over with the class to assure success with the activity.
  • A Student Example
  • BONUS ACTIVITY - Students shop for an outfit for their party - one with a budget and one without a budget. A fun extra activity.

Please Note: Students must have access to a grocery shopping website for this activity, e.g. Walmart.com, Target.com, etc. whether it be on your school computer or other devices.
