Plants Introduction Lesson: All About Plants!

This is a unit about plants! In order to open you must have ActivInspire software (you can download for FREE online, it is amazing!). I use ActivInspire on my SMARTBoard and it works like a charm.

I supplement this unit with experiments and activities, but this is the content that I teach my first grade students. There are 48 slides on it. There are multiple pages for students to draw words to label, circle answers, cross off words, match up words to the description, and more. It is designed to be an interactive lesson. I often even have my students turn the pages and ask the questions.

Here is what is included in this lesson:

-Reasons why plants are important (true/false set up, students circle answer)
-What plants need to grow
-Concept Map of things plants need to grow
-What plants need to grow quick video (link)
-Cross of things plants do NOT need to survive
-The life cycle of a plant
-Words used: seed coat, root, sprout, seedling, young adult plant, adult, flowers, fruit
-Draw the words to complete the blank
-Number the sentences to complete the order of the plant life cycle
-Parts of a plant and functions (root, stem, leaves, flowers, seeds, fruits
-Label the plant parts
-Plant part and description match up
-Pollination and fertilization (appropriate for primary grades; does not delve extreme detail!)
-Important words used: pollen, pollination, pistol, ovule, fertilization)
-How plants are pollinated (wind, animals, humans, etc)
-Link to song/animation about pollination
-Think Pair Share about pollination with 3 questions
