What educators are saying

Used this as a bulletin board. It was engaging and many students stopped by to check it out and try to answer the question.
I've used this many different semesters. I try to give them info that makes them think and sometimes it throws them off track. We make it a contest. They have a good time with it. I don't give them the list of names. They only see the line/lyric.

Description

Who wrote it: a pop star or a poet? Your students will have so much fun trying to decide whether the quote is from a poem or lyrics from a pop song! You can use the interactive bulletin board display OR the student handout and presentation as an anticipatory set to ignite excitement and appreciation for poetry.

The zipped bundle includes a 28-page PDF for the interactive bulletin board (26 quote cards + two heading pages), a 2-page PDF student handout (26-question "quiz"), a 2-page teacher answer key, and an 80-slide presentation (updated to include an editable PowerPoint presentation as well as PDF). The presentation and the interactive bulletin board both include the answers with the titles and artists. *I have also included a paper-saver option for the bulletin board where you can print two-sided with two cards on one page.*

Pop artists featured are: Beyonce, Selena Gomez, Ariana Grande, Jonas Brothers, Khalid, Lady Gaga, Maroon 5, Bruno Mars, Marshmello, Shawn Mendes, One Direction, and Rihanna.

Poets featured are: Elizabeth Barrett Browning, Robert Browning, Lord Byron (George Gordon), Countee Cullen, Paul Laurence Dunbar, Langston Hughes, Christina Rossetti, Carl Sandburg, Percy Bysshe Shelley, Jane Taylor, Alfred Lord Tennyson, Dylan Thomas, and William Wordsworth.

NONE of the quotes included are featured in any other pack.

It's a great way for your students to have a POSITIVE attitude about poetry and English class, in general. It also helps them see that the lines of poems are very much like song lyrics, which helps students to understand the meaning.

Please be patient while downloading as it is a very large zipped folder. If you have trouble unzipping it, re-download and wait several minutes before unzipping.
