Description

Help your 4th and 5th graders master the prefix in- and the assimilations il-, ir-, and im- with this interactive slide deck with guided notes and an optional exit ticket.

Note: This slide only focuses on the “not” meaning of the prefix.

Use this slideshow in a whole group setting to teach/review the prefixes in-, il-, ir-, and im- or assign it as an independent study activity.

About the Prefixes In-, Il-, Ir-, and Im- Slides Presentation

Sections Include:

  • Focus Prefixes and Meaning – Students will learn about or review the prefixes and their meanings.
  • Examples with Target Prefixes (6) – Students will look at six example words (at varying levels of difficulty) and the meaning of each.
  • Match the Meanings (5) – Students will match the meaning for five more words with the prefixes.
  • Find the Target Prefixed Word in Sentences (7) – Students will read seven sentences, find the prefixed word, and write the meaning.
  • Show What You Know – Use this section to walk students through the “show what you know” exit slip as they complete it.
  • Optional Practice - Optional practice (completing sentences using words in a word bank) is included at two levels for some of the words used in the slides.

About the Guided Notes

The slideshow comes with Guided Notes – a feature aimed at encouraging active learning. These notes are designed to accompany the slideshow, aiding in better retention and comprehension.

About the Exit Slip

As a conclusion, the slideshow includes a “Show What You Know” section with a matching printable exit slip. This is a quick assessment tool that teachers can use to gauge the students' understanding of the focus prefix.
