What educators are saying

I enjoyed using this resource. I used this as an added resource to the unit. Students enjoyed this activity, as well.
An excellent introduction to Edgar Allen Poe - the approach kept the information interesting and engaging for the students and instructor - would recommend it to others!

Description

Who or What Killed Edgar Allen Poe?

Edgar Allen Poe’s death has been the subject of speculation for over 150 years. Have your students meet the suspects, compare and contrast eyewitness statements of his symptoms to current medical knowledge, and write persuasive pieces to promote their theory of who or what killed Poe.

Rubrics, a number of extension activities and extra credit assignments are included (in editable format) as well as character dossiers of people in Poe’s life, the lesson plan and other materials your students need to conduct their own investigations and arrive at their own conclusions.

Project based learning (PBL) allows students gain knowledge and skills by working for an extended period of time to investigate and respond to an authentic, engaging and complex question, problem, or challenge. This project sharpens understanding of point of view, examining bias in a text, inference, characterization and cultural basis of literature while using logic, the scientific method & compare and contrast.
