Reading comprehension with “Wh” questions with short reading passages for special education, reading intervention, and inclusion students.


With a picture, beginning to mid-reader passage, and four reading comprehension questions, your special education students will begin to work independently, increase vocabulary, practice test-taking skills, recognize sight words, all while you record valuable data on each worksheet!

SUGGESTED IEP GOALS for Special Education students:

1. Given a picture and an instructional level reading passage containing high frequency words, STUDENT will read the text with 80% accuracy, in 4 out of 5 opportunities, by MONTH, YEAR.

2. Given a picture and an instructional level reading passage, STUDENT will read the passage in order to answer up to four questions, by marking the correct choice out of a field of two, with 80% accuracy, in 4 out of 5 opportunities, by MONTH, YEAR.

3. Given a short reading passage containing both familiar and new vocabulary (not yet taught), paired with a picture depicting an action, event, or person described in the text, STUDENT will read the passage (with or without verbal prompts) in order to answer up to four “wh” questions related to the passage, with 80% accuracy, in 4 out of 5 opportunities, by MONTH, YEAR.

4. Given a short reading passage containing familiar text and a picture, STUDENT will independently mark the correct response with up to four questions related to the passage, with 80% accuracy, in 4 out of 5 opportunities, by MONTH, YEAR.

5. Given a short reading passage paired with a picture and up to four “wh” questions reated to the text, STUDENT will read each question and highlight the details, in order to mark the correct responses, with 80% accuracy, in 4 out of 5 opportunities, by MONTH, YEAR.
