What educators are saying

I've used these as homework. Great resource! I love the balance of fiction and non-fiction questions.

Description

**Version 2** This version assigns nightly reading for "at least 20 minutes" and there are lines in the response space. The rest is identical to the original version! :) See PREVIEW for this updated version.

****Updated October 2017** See bottom for update details!

We have all seen the data and know how important it is for our students to read outside of the classroom on a daily basis. But, do we really want to know what page they started and stopped on? Do we just want our kids to write down the number of minutes we told them to read?

Enter Reading Response Homework Logs. Instead of students charting page numbers and minutes, they will answer one Common Core reading strategy prompt based on their at-home reading that day. Students will practice their reading strategies and skills and bring more meaning and substance to their nightly reading!

There are 20 different response logs to choose from (10 in color and 10 in black/white) that can be completed with any fiction book. You could use one format each month, rotate each week, or pick and choose based on your classroom focus and student needs. Each log has cute, simple graphics for easy copying that are NOT month specific, perfect for anytime of the year. And, no two reading tasks are exactly identical.

The reading strategies and skills are simply stated and do not have to be mastered in order to be completed. They include:

Main Idea
Identifying Genre
Prediction
Ask Questions
Making Connections
Visualization
Cause and Effect
Evaluation
Author’s Purpose
Point of View
Fact and Opinion
Character Analysis
Retelling/Summarize
Compare and Contrast
Sequence of Events
Determine Theme/Moral/Lesson
Story Structure (character/setting/plot)
Word Work: synonyms, antonyms, alpha order, nouns, action verbs, adjectives, new vocab, spelling pattern, and subject of a sentence.

**Update**
After many requests, I have made these reading logs with MORE SPACE to write. This additional set has Monday and Tuesday on the front and Wednesday and Thursday on the back. There is also a GROWTH MINDSET quote on the top of the back page to inspire your students to finish the week strong. There is also a PARENT SIGNATURE request at the bottom of the back page!

I hope you find these more worthwhile and useful than your traditional reading logs!

Happy Reading!
