What educators are saying

Jennifer Findley creates the BEST resources to use with my 4th graders. They are rigorous but accessible. I use these constantly throughout the school year for whole group instruction, small group instruction, and small group practice.
Thank you so much for this comprehensive resource. I started using these with my intervention groups. I love the review of skills and the practice it provides for my struggling learners. It is an awesome way for them to implement different skills.

    Description

No-prep reading review that works with any pacing guide or curriculum!

Real Talk - My students and I have never found success with most pre-packaged spiral reading reviews. Most of these reading reviews spiral reading skills in ways that don't match my pacing or the needs of my students. This just frustrates my students and takes away from my instruction time explaining these skills before giving the reviews.

    The Solution?

Reading review that is skill-based and able to be mixed and matched to fit YOUR needs!

    Skill-Based Reading Review

This BUNDLE of fiction and informational reading reviews works with any pacing guide or curriculum because:

    • The printables (used daily or weekly) are skill-based, and each printable focuses on a specific skill or set of related skills.
    • You can mix and match the review printables to create a reading review that is truly customized to your needs, the needs of your students, and your pacing guide demands.

Note: This 4th and 5th grade reading review is rigorous and the texts are not available at multiple levels. If you have a lot of struggling readers, this probably will not fit their needs without significant support.

About the 4th and 5th Grade Reading Review

Each printable includes 2 pages which includes:

    1. The text - written at a 4th/5th grade reading level
    2. A set of directions for annotating
    3. Four questions that specifically address/review the skill

    Reading Review Versions

To make this resource even more accessible, I have included two versions.

    Version 1:

•Questions/tasks are labeled with days (Monday-Friday).

•Monday is always annotating the text.

•Each day, the students reread the text and answer a new question.

•This version works best for morning work or another daily task.

    Version 2:

•Questions/tasks are numbered and not labeled by days.

•The first task is always annotating the text.

•Rereading is not needed since the students can answer all of the questions in one sitting.

•This version is the most flexible and can be used for any purpose (assessment, reteaching, small-group work, homework, etc.).

    ABOUT THE DIGITAL VERSIONS

    Google Slides Version

This resource now includes a Google Slides version of the reviews. This version is only included for Version 2 (the pages that are not labeled by day).

The Google Classroom Slides are grouped by skill. You will find the links for each skill on pages 3-4 of each PDF.

Since there are several slides for each skill within Google Slides, you will need to delete any pages you don't want to assign at the moment. Click here for more information about assigning Google Slides.
