Description

Lyrics

Chorus:

Before you read:
1. Directions
2. T.I.Q.
3. Prediction
While you read:
4. Strategies
5. Star the clues from the questions
After you read:
6. Examine the questions
7. Keep or eliminate
8. Evidence and then answer

Before you read:

Here’s how you start it right
Read the directions
And circle the type of passage
That you’re about to read.
Is it informational or literature?
If it’s a story, say “Yay!”
‘Cause it’s easy for your brain to process.
Informational is great.
Just remember that you’ve got to slow it down a bit.
Take the time to comprehend and visualize it.

T is for TITLE,
Put a box around
‘Cause it’s the main idea
or what it’s mostly about.
I stands for ILLUSTRATIONS
A picture or sketch.
The purpose is to help you visualize the text.
Q is for the QUESTIONS that you need to preview
You’ll notice that they give you
Fabulous clues
To help you
Make a prediction.
Use the 5 Ws to help you.

(Chorus)

While you read:

Record your six strategies
They help your brain stay engaged while you read
Make predictions, make connections, visualize
Ask questions, self-monitor, summarize
When you come to a phrase and you’re like,
“That’s bizarre! That’s a clue from the question!”
Then put a star.
Later you’ll go back and find the evidence
And the star will help you swiftly to locate it

(Chorus)

After you read:

Carefully read the questions
Underline the key words in the questions.
Tell yourself, “This question is asking me to ____.”
Now, read each answer choice.
It’s time to critically think.
Which answers are reasonable?
Then put a question mark
If they definitely don’t make sense
Then X marks the spot
Now, I’ve got to tell you
We are at my favorite part, friends
What’s your favorite part, friend?
F-finding evidence
Ladies and Gentlemen,
Gather around
I’m about to sh-sh-show you
An evidence smack down
You wanna know where I found my evidence for one through five
Check it out, here’s the text
You see my underlining and numbers?
That’s my proof
That’s how I know I’m correct
The hard work is down,
Now it’s time to answer it.
