S-Cubed Level 2 Complete Bundle

This product is only for people who’ve completed Level ONE.

Please start Level ONE

before buying this product or any other Level 2 product. Do not purchase this product if you believe you can skip level ONE because you believe your students are advanced. You will not be happy with the purchase if you do that. As Maria sings in "The Sound of Music"...let's start from the very beginning!

This method is ideal for SAB or Three-part choirs that include the boy's changing or changed voice all of whom have completed S-Cubed Original Series before their voices changed.

Level 2 picks up where we left off in Lesson 27 of the Original Series and transitions the sight singing to 3-part mixed (SAB). There are 15 power points in this series that include 3-5 lessons per point power that are 10-15 minutes each. My aim in creating Level 2 was to help my 8th graders become much more capable sight singers than I was when I entered my freshman year of music school. In the Level 2 series, we start by helping our new mixed choir work on producing and recognizing beautiful octaves and unisons during the game “Forbidden Pattern” and “Follow the Hand”. We teach listening skills that help them soar as they begin to sing SAB music for the first time in their repertoire work. Then, we move toward note reading on the treble and bass clef using letters. Soon, our students are able to build major scales starting on any pitch. This helps them to understand some of the functions of the key signature as they work their way toward the final goal of Level 2: Successfully Sight Singing chromatic pitches. By the time we reach Lessons 13-15, our students are becoming fluent in their use of what Mr D calls “Natural Rule #1 and #2”. These two rules are a simplified way of understanding and interpreting the data from key signatures for true beginners who’ve never played an instrument and who learned to sight sing in the group choral music setting using S-Cubed! At the end of it all, Mr D makes suggestions about “What’s Next?!?” in your sight singing journey with your students now that their tool boxes are filled with so many useful ways to help them take the notes off the page and turn them into the beautiful, well-blended, balanced sound of choral music singers.

During my first year in music school, I used to tape record the sight singing examples, put my headphones on and memorize them for the tests because I was not capable of actually singing them from sight. I simply didn't have the tools. Also, I saw too many of my peers who had learned to love singing in their high school choirs drop out of the university music school because they couldn't pass their sight singing class. Now, my 8th graders could probably pass Freshman sight singing in most music programs, and that's exactly what I wanted when I started creating this program!

One successful step at a time…the S-Cubed way…as we work to help our beginners become highly competent, curious literate musicians.

Level 2 requires very advanced thinking and reasoning skills, and it is best used with 8th grade and higher after having completed Level ONE.

All links to the video teaching tips and video teaching examples are included. You get to see how Mr. D has takes his own true, public school beginners into the early stages of theoretical understanding.

Recognize what the children don't know. Don't fault them for not knowing it... Then, teach it to them in a fun way they will remember forever. ...That's the philosophy of S-Cubed.
