This will become a tried and true resource in your classroom management tool kit.

    INCLUDED IN THIS BUNDLE

The Great Pencil Caper an Observation and Inference Inquiry

This is an exciting mini-inquiry lab that uses a common everyday classroom supply, pencils! In this inquiry lab activity students read a short newspaper article about a pencil thief who is sneaking into classrooms and breaking pencils. The police are hoping that if they can figure out how the bandit is breaking the pencils it can lead to a break in the case. At this point students get to put their observation and inference skills to work to help the police make observations and inferences about how six pencils were broken. This activity fits nicely into a variety of science units including a forensics unit.

    Observation Guide

Teaching students how to make quality observations can be difficult. To help my students with that problem I created this guide for my students to use when they need to make observations. When students have some ideas about what to observe they increase the quality and quantity of their observations.

    Science Process Skills Posters

Help your students recognize what skills good scientists do with these bright and colorful science process skills posters. The 15 posters highlight the science process skills and give a brief description of what each skill means.

There are 14 science process skills posters in your choice of 8.5 x 11 or 11 x 17, one title poster, and two pages of mini-posters which can be photocopied and passed out to students to keep in their binders or to parents to keep at home as a reference.

The 14 process skills covered in this poster set are:

    • Classify
    • Scientific Method
    • Use Numbers
    • Observe
    • Measure
    • Experiment
    • Communicate
    • Define Operationally
    • Variable
    • Hypothesize
    • Predict
    • Infer
    • Form Models
    • Interpret Data

    Lab Report Template

Provide your students with an easy to use lab report format to summarize results from science inquiry projects. This is a one-page lab-write up format helps students communicate their lab results in a straight forward and simple way. Using this tool reinforces good science inquiry habits and scientific thinking.

    Activity Participation Grade Sheet

Provide your students with clear, direct feedback about their participation and behavior during classroom activity with this easy to use rubric. When students are clear about your expectations they will be able to better manage and modify their own behavior to achieve their best results. This grade sheet is quick and easy for teachers to use in class while their students are completing group activities.

The grade sheet is simple and works for any subject. It is perfect for students in grades 3-12. The grade sheet focuses on five important skills:

    • use of materials
    • following directions
    • working with group
    • staying in assigned area
    • clean up

Everything in this bundle will become tried and true resources that you go to again and again. Save money and time when you purchase them in one place!

    NGSSMS-ETS1-2
Evaluate competing design solutions using a systematic process to determine how well they meet the criteria and constraints of the problem.
    NGSSMS-ETS1-4
Develop a model to generate data for iterative testing and modification of a proposed object, tool, or process such that an optimal design can be achieved.
    NGSSMS-ETS1-1
Define the criteria and constraints of a design problem with sufficient precision to ensure a successful solution, taking into account relevant scientific principles and potential impacts on people and the natural environment that may limit possible solutions.
    NGSSMS-ETS1-3
Analyze data from tests to determine similarities and differences among several design solutions to identify the best characteristics of each that can be combined into a new solution to better meet the criteria for success.
