What educators are saying

We used this with our 3rd grade cub scouts. They LOVED it. And it was easy for me to modify it to fit our time frame. The kids were so excited to see the crime scene.
My students have enjoyed exploring the more concrete side of forensics through this content. It has been hard for them to work on formulating plausible assumptions, but they really love working on investigative skills that they can use to strengthen and back up their inferences. Thank you!

Description

The Case of the Missing Cookie walks students through the steps of the scientific process in order to solve a mystery! This resource is a 1-2 week mystery simulation, which can be used to teach science process skills, review the nature of science and practice team building skills. Students will help you find the thief through fingerprint analysis, handwriting analysis, and more!

This resource is low prep, just print and copy; and minimal set-up (just a few materials). You can use this resource two ways. You can use the short scripted version provided or you can get other staff such as teachers, coaches, or principals to participate as the suspects. The students will LOVE this option if you can swing it! In addition, students will use critical thinking skills, practice writing and reading comprehension skills like inferencing, and use a bit of math (measuring).

What’s included?

  • Teacher Edition with directions on how to carry out both simulation options
  • Materials to set up the crime scene
  • Labels for evidence bags
  • Station directions with optional QR codes
  • Handwriting Analyzing Activity
  • Fingerprint Dusting Activity
  • Investigating Footprints Activity
  • Your Alibi Writing Activity
  • Student Edition with handouts
  • Student Wanted Poster
  • Class Banner
  • Student Certificates

It’s a great way to start the year or as a fun end-of-year activity!
