What educators are saying

My students suddenly were into plays and wanted to perform Romeo and Juliet. They had an absolute blast and this was much more appropriate for them thank the original. They got a kick out of it!
We loved these scripts - the updates made it engaging! I also like the way the editor left the Shakespeare "flavor" in each one. I was able to use these for multiple grade levels.

Description

Package contains reader’s theater scripts for Romeo and Juliet, Hamlet, Macbeth, Hamlet on Trial and the Ophelia Murder Mystery, interactive game links, lesson ideas, graphic organizers, writing prompts and an assessment rubric. Part of the Shakespeare readers theater bundle 7 scripts, 100+ pages

These 10 minute scripts are tongue in cheek versions of the Bard’s finest tragedies. These are perfect for drama clubs, literature circles, an introduction to Shakespeare or for concluding a unit on the Bard. Each play is partially done in the original language and partly in modern day speech. Small casts that allow doubling make them easy to do as a full production or reader’s theater.

In Romeo and Juliet the audience gets into the act by chanting whenever a fight occurs. Juliet is rather preoccupied with vampires and Mr. Capulet with saving money.

The ten minute version of Macbeth has one of the witches as a narrator and uses a number of hand puppets to represent sons of the main characters.

Hamlet is narrated by Horatio and rap song lyrics can be inserted as Hamlet’s rants or Ophelia loses her mind. Audience members are called upon to play the parts of the players performing the play within a play.

Hamlet on Trial (for the murder of Ophelia) and the Ophelia Murder Mystery can be done as staged productions. Also available - Murder at the Manor - mystery game activity makes a great get into the time period activity or use as a culminating activity after performing.
