Use this lesson for Shakespeare's Hamlet to get students thinking critically, creatively and outside of the box! This lesson compares Disney’s The Lion King to Shakespeare's classic tragedy, Hamlet. Disney's animated film has a number of clearly discernible parallels to Shakespeare’s Hamlet. In fact, in the 2004 special release of the The Lion King, the commentary confirms inspiration from the great Shakespeare. This lesson plan will help students draw inferences, make connections and identify parallels with a familiar childhood favorite, and, a text that they often find challenging and cumbersome: "Hamlet" vs. The Lion King!
