What educators are saying

This is an excellent resource! My students found the topic to be both creative and engaging. Thank you for this!
My students loved connecting themes between Hamlet and "The Lion King". Excellent, well-written resource. Would purchase more from this seller in the future.

Description

Use this lesson for Shakespeare's Hamlet to get students thinking critically, creatively and outside of the box! This lesson compares Disney’s The Lion King to Shakespeare's classic tragedy, Hamlet. Disney's animated film has a number of clearly discernible parallels to Shakespeare’s Hamlet. In fact, in the 2004 special release of the The Lion King, the commentary confirms inspiration from the great Shakespeare. This lesson plan will help students draw inferences, make connections and identify parallels with a familiar childhood favorite, and, a text that they often find challenging and cumbersome: "Hamlet" vs. The Lion King!

This lesson plan is a ZIP file with two PDFs and includes the following:

*Two pages of graphic organizers for key scene parallels and one page for differences
*SEVEN links for each key scene of the film that connects to “Hamlet”
*A graphic organizer for literary elements such as mood, tone, theme and motif
*An activity for students to find parallels between “Circle of Life” and Hamlet’s “To be or not” soliloquy
*THREE PowerPoint project options

ANSWER KEYS AND RUBRICS FOR EACH PROJECT ARE INCLUDED!

Please Note: This lesson plan is for Disney's original 1994 animated version of The Lion King.

Additionally, this lesson plan is a ZIP file with two PDFs; they are not editable. This is to help protect my work. If you are looking for something editable, this product does not give that capability.  However, all PDFs can be used with distance learning, by using the mark up tools within the PDF.
