Here's how I use this resource in my classroom:

1. Plan and Make Copies: I like to do one page a day for a week: diagram, habitat, diet, babies, and fun facts. I copy a packet for each child so they can each do their own writing. If your class is younger or you want it to go a little faster, you could also just print one copy and “share the pen” to work on it together as a whole group under the doc cam.

2. Writing and Learning: We work together to read and think about what could go in the blank, discuss how to write it, give kids time to write it, and then move to the next blank. You can choose to do this on a doc cam while they copy or check their work, etc. We break periodically to re-read what it all says so far. This step only takes about 5 minutes/page.

3. Making the Learning Come to Life!: Once we’re done, they get to color the picture and watch the short clips embedded on the Google Slides doc (there are 2-3 per day - all screened and recommended!). Have fun!

It's all very AUTHENTIC and IN-CONTEXT, which makes it more MEANINGFUL and FUN for everyone!!!

By the end of the 5 days, your little learners will have gained lots of great literacy practice and they'll feel like proud little animal experts! Chances are good YOU will have even learned some cool new info as well. I learned a lot researching and creating this project! Animals are fascinating! I worked hard to pull out truly interesting facts and not just the basic blah blah blah. :)

If you enjoy this concept, I have many more animal research projects that follow this same format. ❤️ They don't take a ton of time (10-15 minutes per day) and the kids LOVE them.
