Short Text for Teaching Text Structure {Vol.3}: American Revolution

If so, then I think you will love this third volume of articles in a new Hello Literacy Informational Text series I'm creating called Hello 411.

I wrote and designed these informational text articles for my students because I was looking for text that was short, interesting, looked like a real magazine article with real photographs and were good examples of the five different nonfiction text structures (RIT.5). These articles are ideal for close reading in grades 3-8.

There are five articles written (by me) at four different lexile levels ranging from 800L - 1150L (3rd-9th grades). In this edition, all five articles are related to American history around the time of the American Revolution. They are interesting topics to kids, not time or month sensitive, and crossing boundaries of culture, ethnicity, income, and socioeconomic status. Passage titles are:
