Description

"Show, don't tell" is an essential lesson for any creative writer to learn. In this lesson, students learn what it means to use descriptive writing to paint a vivid picture for their readers. There is certainly a time for "telling", which this handout acknowledges, but using powerful imagery to evoke images in a reader's mind is a skill that is essential to good storytelling.

Included are the following: Background on the idea of "show, don't tell", an engaging lesson where students can practice this skill (get your clementines ready!), a follow-up activity/homework assignment, teacher directions, teacher key, an editable Google Slides link, and a Google Classroom-ready digital version of the follow-up activity.
