Description

This fully editable film study packet is meant to complement a film study of the movie Shrek, which is a perfect way to introduce students to the different components of plot mountain, symbolism, and The Hero's Journey.

Students will spend the class period watching the film "Shrek" and will answer the questions on the worksheet while they watch. They will then reflect on the significance of the movie with thoughtful questions and journaling prompts.

For homework, students will complete a creative and thoughtful homework assignment about the film where they will reflect on the symbolic meaning of important symbols in the movie. They will then pick or design their own symbol that represents something about them. There is also a handout for an extension project on The Hero's Journey, that defines the stages for students and asks them to identify moments in the movie that align with each stage.

The packet includes:

  1. "Shrek" Film Analysis Worksheet: As students watch and analyze the film "Shrek," they'll answer these comprehension questions to ensure that they are following along with the plot of the movie. After watching the movie, students can reflect on its meaning with more thoughtful questions and journal prompts.
  2. Homework Assignment: The included homework assignment extends the learning beyond the classroom, encouraging students to apply what they've learned in a creative way. They will be asked to identify a symbol that represents them, and reflect on the symbols in the movie.
  3. Extension Mini-Project: The mini-project provides an opportunity for students to dive deeper into the subject matter and connect the plot of Shrek and his character development to the Hero's Journey.
