What educators are saying

We have one of these wooden games and this allows more kids to play it. Great for addition and subtraction to 10
My students loved this game! I like how it comes with 2 versions: up to 10 or up to 12. That way students can work just on addition while others can work on multiplication and addition.

Description

This is a paper version of the game, Shut the Box. It comes in 9 digit, 10 digit and 12 digit options. This game is great for centers and guided groups. It builds number sense by fostering addition, decomposing/composing numbers and building equivalent equations.

I recommend placing game boards in sheet protectors and playing with dry erase markers.

This game includes a double-sided recording sheet for students to demonstrate their learning.

THE RULES:

  • Players take turns rolling two 6-sided dice
  • Add up your score and cross off numbers that add up to your score
  • If 7, 8, 9 and 10 are all crossed off, players can roll one die
  • If no one is able to go, the game is over
  • If someone crosses off all of their numbers, the game is over and they say, “Shut the box”
  • Players add up the numbers that are leftover
  • The player with the lowest score wins
