Description

Want to have conversations in sign language? This sign language unit was written for beginning signers--both hearing and deaf. It has a conversational style, introducing new vocabulary and accompanying activities.

This unit is a fun and easy way to learn how to sign. The 12 chapters is organized and illustrated around a topical presentation.

Topics Include:

- Introducing Signing

- Getting Acquainted

- Food

- Clothes & Shopping

- Education

- Special Occasions

- Fingerspelling

- Family & Friends

- Health

- Pets, Animals, & Color

- Sports

- Emergency Situations

Each chapter introduces a topical subject and models a conversation. Following the conversation is an activity that is not only for enjoyment but also adds new vocabulary. Conversations are patterned in Standard English with some simple variations. While the conversations and activities use English word order, the signs are largely from American Sign Language (ASL). This approach has been selected as the best bridge between deaf and hearing people.

Easy-to-follow instructions for any new signer!
