Using the Phonics Sorts
Use the phonics sorts throughout the year as you review phonics skills OR as you notice phonics gaps.
In addition to sorting words, students can do other activities with their sorted words to increase their understanding of the words. They can:
- Choose words to use in sentences.
- Choose a word to write synonyms and antonyms.
- Choose a word to write related words (words with the same phonics pattern, for example).
About the Digital Sorts
The sorts are also available in digital format, ready to assign in Google Slides. The content is exactly the same as the printable versions, but has been redesigned to work with moveable pieces in Google Slides.
Digital answer keys are included for simple checking!

Tips:
- Be sure your students are in edit mode (not present mode) in order to drag and drop the moveable pieces to sort into categories.
- Want a whole class activity? Project a sort to your interactive whiteboard and have students take turns sorting the moveable cards to the sorting workspace.
More information about the digital version and digital access links can be found on pages 7-9 of the PDF.
