What educators are saying

I use this in preparation of the state test, as our book doesn't do a great job with this standard, so any extra practice we can get is great!
Any resource by Jennifer Findley is a must have for your classroom. I enjoyed having the option of digital or paper to fit my students' needs. This was a great way to practice and reinforce simile and metaphors.

About the Similes and Metaphors of the Day

This resource includes 25 pages of simile and metaphor practice and review.

You can use this for consecutive school days (using one a day or multiple pages a day) or use it throughout the school year to spiral review the skill of identifying and determining the meaning of similes and metaphors.

Each page includes a simile or metaphor used in the context of a short (paragraph-length) story. This will help the students determine the meaning of the simile or metaphor.

There are three versions, so make sure you choose the version that works best for you and your students.

Version 1

For this version, the students:

•Determine if the underlined phrase or sentence contains a simile or metaphor.

•Write the meaning of the simile or metaphor.

Version 2

For this version, the students:

•Determine if the underlined phrase or sentence contains a simile or metaphor AND explain how they know.

•Write the meaning of the simile or metaphor.

Version 3

For this version, the students:

•Determine what two things are being compared in the underlined phrase or sentence.

•Determine if the comparison is a simile or a metaphor AND explain how they know.
