What educators are saying

Great for science centers during my force and motion unit. Helped me assess student's understanding.
This was a great addition to our lesson on simple machines! My students enjoyed cutting and pasting the squares too. Thank you!

Description

This interactive and hands-on sort activity will allow your students to determine definitions and examples for the 6 different simple machines for your Upper Elementary Science Classroom.

In this resource students first cut out pieces from a worksheet that have machines, definitions and examples on them. They then sort these pieces onto corresponding groups and glue them into place. It is a great way to teach, practice and asses this tricky concept in a kinesthetic way!

This hands- on activity is great for review, rotations, partner work, independent work or assessment for your tactile/kinesthetic learners.

Included in this resource:

  • Worksheet on which students match the simple machine with its definition and 2 examples from the real world where the machine is used. The 6 machines included are Lever, Pulley, Wheel and Axle, Inclined Plane, Screw, & Wedge. There are 2 versions of this worksheet for students so you can choose the best version for your level of learners.
  • Two application activities for more practice: Simple Machines Scavenger Hunt (great as a HW assignment) and Simple Machines Invention (students invent something 'useful' using at least 2 simple machines).

These are perfect ways for students to make connections to their lives.
