Being a middle and high school student and teen is tough enough. Having to learn, understand/follow social rules and have good social skills makes it even tougher (even more so when social expectations are not always clear). Developing a social understanding and navigating the social world is a tough concept, even more so when you are a teen where social expectations and rules are constantly changing. Wouldn’t it be so much easier if people just told you how to behave, how to act, what to do and what to say? That would be nice, wouldn’t it? Unfortunately, though, that’s not how the social world works. A lot of our social behavior is governed by ‘unwritten rules’ where we are just ‘expected’ to know what to. If we are unaware of those rules or do not know how to figure out those rules (we unable to make good social inferences), this may cause us to do or say the wrong thing. This can break down social interactions.

Using a combination of clip art and real life pictures, this workbook (available as both a NO-PRINT and PRINTABLE workbook) is designed to help older students and teens (middle and high school students) navigate through a variety of different social situations to help strengthen their ability to:
1- Correctly read a social situation.
2- Figure what is happening in that social situation.
3. Figure out what the expected behaviors are for that situation (based upon environmental cues, other people’s actions, other people’s words etc).
4. Know what expected actions they NEED to do and when they need to do them.

-Reading the room (what should students do in a specific room/situation based upon what is going on around them).
