Description

Contains: an explanation of Socratic Seminars, PLUS a pdf of the norms to post on your wall (or digitally), as well as questions to discuss that apply to multiple topics, a reflection activity and "compliment cards."

Socratic Seminars are conversations between students where there are questions to be discussed after reading a fiction or nonfiction text, and students are “safe” to share thoughts and ideas without the fear of getting the “wrong answer.” It will help students to increase oral language, grow in their social emotional learning, achieve deeper understanding, and make deeper text connections. It takes students to the top of Bloom's because they are creating/formulating their own questions, answers, opinions, and ideas.

The Internet is full of ideas for older students and how to use Socratic Seminars in the classroom. This guide is for younger kids! This product is not a complete training tool for teachers, but a guide. It will provide some "good for any story" focus questions and ideas to conduct the seminar. Starting Socratic Seminars in your classroom is not hard at all, so this may be all you need! However, you may want to read more on the subject, OR you can purchase some ready to go story questions here:
