Learning Objective

Students will review literacy and math skills with moon and sun-themed worksheets for the total solar eclipse.

Description

There will be a total solar eclipse on April 8, 2024! Are you in the path of the eclipse? This event will span 15 U.S. states as it moves along its path from Mexico to Canada. Even if you won't experience the total eclipse like we will here in parts of Texas, you'll definitely want to talk about this event with your students!

Since this will be a tricky concept for your young learners, you can use some age-appropriate resources to discuss the event like the flashlight experiment or reading passage included in this resource. Then you can follow up the rest of the week with thematic sun and moon activities!

**Please note this is similar to my Leap Year resource. There are a few pages/activities specifically related to the concept of eclipses, but the majority of this resource is thematic worksheets that can be used around the time of the eclipse for skill-based practice.**

Wondering how to integrate these activities into your classroom seamlessly? Here are some suggestions:

  1. Morning Work: Print individual pages for use as morning work throughout the week of the eclipse.
  2. Transitions: Keep worksheets at students' seats for quick engagement during short periods before recess, lunch, or dismissal.
  3. Indoor Recess: Make the most of indoor recess with entertaining and educational activities.
  4. Classroom Reward: Use the packet as a reward for your students' hard work, letting them enjoy the extra fun during designated times.
