Description

In this two week presentation, you will find 10 mini-lessons (15-20 minutes each) that will help your students understand symbolism in a fun way! (Plus you will love it because all the work has been done for you...sweet!)
Day 1: Introduction to Symbolism with academic language and picture symbols
Day 2: Familiar symbols in literature - Can you match symbolic items with what they represent?
Day 3-4: Use pictures to help students figure out what different colors symbolize. Students fill in worksheet.
Day 5-6: Use pictures to help students figure out what different objects symbolize. Students fill in worksheet.
Day 7-8: Students create a symbolism shield/crest that represents themselves.
Day 9: Find symbolism in short passages.
Day 10: Symbolism quiz.

Lesson Plans and handouts are provided.
It was created as a Notebook/SMARTBoard presentation I have now also included on in Powerpoint. Both are included. I hope this helps those of you that don't have the Notebook program.

There are tons of pictures to help EL students and your other students that are visual learners. There are many opportunities for speaking, listening, reading and writing. Plus even a creative piece where students get to make their own symbolic shield/crest. It is a fun, yet informational, way to introduce students to symbolism!!
