What educators are saying

My students absolutely LOVED doing this! It was not difficult at all and was a great way to end the year. @Raising Scholars if you are interested in seeing our final products, let me know what email I can send the pictures to. They look amazing!
This project was so much fun and looked terrific hanging on our bulletin board. It was a bit challenging, but in a really good way. My students really enjoyed this activity after our lessons on symmetry. Thank you!

Description

Students learn about reflective symmetry through art with this unique geometry math activity! They take their name (or any other word) to create a design that uses lines of symmetry. Detailed directions with pictures and helpful tips are included, along with two sheets that help students create and color their designs.

This resource is perfect to display as an Open House project, as a relaxing activity to wind down after state testing, or just for fun at the end of the year.

Symmetry is first introduced in fourth grade (CCSS 4.G.3), so this resource is appropriate for fourth graders and older. It is rigorous but engaging way to apply symmetry skills to further solidify learning, while also having fun at the same time! Students will be amazed at how creative their designs will turn out.
