This mini-unit has been designed to support the teaching of the Australian Curriculum: History; The globalising world-Popular Culture, focusing on curriculum points ACDSEH027; ACDSEH12; ACDSEH123. This resource has been designed to be used as stand-alone unit or alternatively it can undergo further expansion to fit your teaching program.

-Is it pop culture? Students use criteria to assess whether or not an item is pop culture
-Changing nature of sport. Two case studies and questions about the changing nature of sport in Australia

-Americanisation of Australian TV. Students examine reality TV and it's representation of Australian culture
-Significant individual research task. Students research the contribution of an Australian individual or group to global pop culture
-How do you engage in pop culture? Students rank their preferences for engaging in pop culture as class
-Australia goes global. Students choose from a selection of Australian pop culture and examine the global impact
ASSESSMENT TASK
This unit includes one assessment task which is an interview task. Students are required to interview three family members or friends to gain insight into the changing nature of pop culture since 1949. Instructions, interview templates and rubric provided.

A five page teaching guide with suggested time frames and tips for using the resource in your classroom is included.Â
LENGTH OF UNIT
This unit is designed to take between 11-13 lessons (approx. 3 weeks of class time).
 A ‘lesson’ is assumed to be approximately 50 minutes long.
