Description

This test is an abbreviated version of the LEAP Algebra 1 2025 assessment and is designed for classroom teachers to administer with pencil/paper or by converting into an online digital format (such as Edulastic, Formative, etc…) either in one sitting or by splitting into three sections. The test will take at least 60 minutes to administer, but 90 minutes (or even more) is recommended. Students should have access to devices with internet access so they will have access to the Louisiana testing version of the Desmos online graphing calculator during the assessment.

Section 1a, which is the non-calculator section of LEAP 2025 Algebra 1 assessment, has been omitted from this practice test so that all sections will allow use of the calculator. If you need a full LEAP benchmark assessment, you could add 5 more non-calculator items from the official LEAP practice materials to the beginning of the test and have students keep their devices closed during that part of the assessment.

Scoring rubrics have been omitted from this practice test. The points to be awarded for free response items are given in the table on page 46, and it is up to the classroom teacher to decide how to award points. Please review the rubrics for the official Louisiana practice test (pages 7-13) for examples of rubric scoring.

A blank answer document is provided for those who want to administer the test on paper (pages 47-54).

The items in this test are partially aligned to the test item specifications for LEAP 2025 Algebra 1. This practice test is not produced nor endorsed by the Louisiana Department of Education, but every effort has been made to align with LEAP standards, item types and section blueprints.

The official Louisiana department of education blueprints, reference sheets and test specifications can be found in the official assessment guide.

FREE videos (for sections 1b, 2 and 3) showing how some of the LEAP 2025 items can be worked using the Louisiana version of the Desmos Graphing Calculator are now available at Susan Carriker’s YouTube Channel.  The items in the videos are not the items in this practice test, but are from the official Louisiana practice materials that are similar to those found in this practice test. The strategies presented in the videos may be applied to some of the items in this practice test.
