Taylor Swift Inspired Characterization Writing Slides/ Song Analysis
Description
Trying to teach your students about direct and indirect characterization? Do you and/or your students love Taylor Swift?
The first half of this presentation reviews characterization, direct and indirect, and STEAL, and allows students to practice identifying the two different types of characterization and explaining their understandings/inferences
Then, the second half of the presentation looks at the song "I Bet You Think About Me" (clean) and asks critical thinking questions to help identify and determine the use of characterization, inferences we draw as readers, and general comprehension questions. Additional response/teacher note slides included, or can be used for tiered instruction
Finally, students are given three discussion questions to help deepen their understanding of the song and the effectiveness of direct/indirect characterization to communicate a message to their audience and to express the personality of different characters.
