What educators are saying

My students used this in small groups as we were reviewing for EOGs. They loved learning about owls and loved the paired Fiction text with it.
I used this with my third graders to get ready for state testing! It was a fun activity that made reviewing test taking strategies fun!

Description

It’s that time of year…. time to think about those major assessments coming up! Are you looking for a creative way to engage your students while preparing them for the genre of test-taking? This bundle includes a fiction practice passage, a nonfiction practice passage, and a craftivity that focuses on test-taking strategies! After discussing good test-taking strategies, students get to put them to use as they complete the two practice reading passages! These 3 days of activities all feature owls!

This print-and-go test prep resource includes THREE items:

  • An owl craftivity- After a discussion of good test-taking strategies, students will create this fun poster where they pledge what they will do to succeed on the test. They write “Owl….” statements on the owls’ bodies. (For example: “Owl” read all of the answer choices before I select an answer.) This craftivity always creates an eye-catching hallway display!
  • A nonfiction passage about owls with 8 multiple-choice questions- Question types include main idea, author's purpose, text structure, sequence, parts of speech, vocabulary, and more.
  • A fiction passage about owls with 11 multiple-choice questions- Question types include context clues, inference, genre, character traits, affixes, vocabulary, figurative language, dictionary skills, and more.

Student-friendly directions are included so that you can place the directions under your document camera, and students can refer to them as they complete the project. An answer key is also included.

********This resource is available in TWO FORMATS:

  1. Traditional Printables- Print the PDF and distribute paper copies to your students to complete.
  2. Easel Activity- I created a new, colorful version for this digital format. Students can complete this activity on a device. After typing three "owl pledges" on the owls' stomachs, students read two passages and answer the comprehension questions that follow. All of the questions have a multiple-choice format, and students type their answer (A, B, C, or D) into the answer box. This digital version has eighteen slides.
