What educators are saying

My curriculum moves faster than my students this year are ready for, so this resource was great for extending my lessons to help them understand better! Thank you!
My gifted students for 3rd grade loved this activity! This brings real world problems into their learning!

Description

Welcome to Thanksgiving on a Budget! Help your students have a real world math experience this holiday season!

The task: Create a Thanksgiving dinner feeding 15 people for $50 or under!

Students will use local grocery store ads to compare prices, look at serving sizes, and create their very own Thanksgiving dinner! They will need to get creative to buy every item on the list and stay within the budget.

Materials included:

  • Slides
  • Teacher Instructions
  • Instructions on how to find local ads
  • Lesson Plan
  • Editable worksheet

Please note: Due to copyright, local ads are not included in this resource. However, I've included step by step instructions on how to find them online to print or download for free. You can also pick them up at the store. Another idea is to link the grocery store websites (like Walmart) and students could search for the certain foods on the websites you choose.

*When I teach this lesson, I have not covered adding and subtracting decimals yet. However, I briefly show students how, and they pick it up quickly! So if your students don't know this math concept, know that it can still be done!
