Composition: “The Crane” was written for two sets of Concert Toms and Bass Drum. Composed in 5/4 meter it is a challenge for the beginning Percussionist. Not only is the meter a challenge, but the focus is also on playing as an ensemble. Rehearsal marks are made to teach the form in the music. “The Crane” pictures a crane wading through the marsh on a hunt for tiny fish.

Options:

1. Other types of drums may be substituted as long as they are of five different pitches OR are placed in different areas of the room.

2. In addition to Percussion ensemble, this may be used in the Core Music/General Music classroom.
