This is a wonderful family project and a way for students to better understand their heritage. In this activity pack, students will conduct family research through interviewing, designing a family tree, making a pilgrim doll, and giving an oral presentation. I have included a rubric and an optional activity for an Ethnic Food Tasting Day.
The book, Molly's Pilgrim by Barbara Cohen, ties nicely into this project and works well as an introduction. Topics such as diversity, values, tolerance, and traditions are among the many topics you can teach and discuss with your students through this project.
