    Are you looking for activities to use with the November read alouds The Amazing Turkey Rescue and The Great Turkey Race by Steve Metzger? The activities in this bundle will help you target many common core standards while enjoying read aloud time in your classroom! As a former reading specialist, I always had to work extra hard to find materials that would reach a large range of abilities. These companions have differentiated materials so that you can "pick and choose" the right fit for your learners!

    The Amazing Turkey Rescue activities include: (70 pages)

    • Comprehension Printables *3 pages of comprehension questions...read the question, color, cut and glue the picture answer! Kids love these and it is so easy to differentiate. If your students are able, they can do these activities independently. If they need support, I suggest letting them color and cut out each of the four picture answers...when they are done, you can read each question out loud and let them glue the picture that answers the question in the space provided!

    These materials were designed to be used with the November read alouds The Amazing Turkey Rescue and The Great Turkey Race by Steve Metzger. Comparing and contrasting two similar texts helps your students improve their comprehension skills by focusing in on character details and important information/events in the text.

    Includes:

    • Compare and Contrast two texts venn diagram
    • Rescue or Race? Read each story event and use your story recall skills to decide which book each event was from! (2 printables)
    • Story Event Picture Cards: 16 story picture cards included/8 picture cards from The Amazing Turkey Rescue and 8 picture cards from The Great Turkey Race
    • Story Sorting Mats: color or bw options
    • Story Event Text Cards: 16 story events/story passages for children to use with the story sorting mats
    • My Favorite Story was printable: children will tell which of these two stories they liked the best, and then tell why
    • Answer Key pages for the passages and the picture cards

    Ideas and Details: You will get a full page with details and ideas for using these compare and contrast materials in whole group and small group settings.

    • Children can cut and glue the picture sorting cards onto the appropriate story mat page/worksheet. There are 8 picture cards for each story.
    • Teacher can laminate the mats and the picture/text passage cards and add hook and loop dots to the materials so that they can be used at the center or small group over and over again.

    • Are you looking for some mentor sentence activities for your kindergarten and first grade classroom? This FREEBIE gives you a "snapshot" of quality of materials you will get with any of my book companions. These activities were designed to be used with the Thanksgiving read aloud The Great Turkey Race by Steve Metzger.

    Includes:

    • Mentor sentence work with a simple checklist for the students to complete. They will look at the picture, read the sentence, trace the sentence and write the sentence. You can draw their focus to sentence structure, punctuation, story comprehension, etc.
    • Mentor sentence work *a more advanced option: These will come with a similar checklist, but the final task is to answer a question that ties into the sentence.
    • Labeling the things from the story activity page
    • Wh? Questions Printable with space to draw and write a response to each of the questions.
    • Making Words Activity Page: Children will cut out the letter tiles and make words with the letters in the title of the story. There are spaces for three, four, five and six letter words.
