The Misadventures of Maude March, A Western Adventure

Maude March seems to ride right out of the pages of her little sister Sallie's Old West dime novels and into a hornet's nest of trouble. Now who would suspect that a plain, skinny, outspoken 15-year-old gal would turn up with her face plastered on Wanted posters all over the Mid-West? To hear Sallie tell it, Maude seemed to be getting wrongly accused of everything from horse theft to bank robbery.

You probably won't blame the two orphaned sisters for hitting the road after their second run of bad luck. Shucks, if some drunk cowpoke shot your only kin, and if the banker took your home away from you, and if some old koot wanted to get hitched to you, and even the preacher turned into Cinderella's stepmother, you might have been plumb tired of the injustices yourself. But, you ask, did this little lady deserve to get labeled as a dangerous outlaw?

You might even wonder how a feller with the same name as the hero in Sallie's dime novel would just happen to turn up with a posse on his tail everytime they slowed down. Justice, it seemed, was getting harder to grab than fleas on a jackrabbit. No wonder Maude was prone to having conniptions! Things looked blacker than midnight under a skillet for those two gals.

But when you read The Misadventures of Maude March , you won't be wanting for laughs. Sallie provides a whole bushelful. We suggest that you head on over yonder to the library quick as a hiccup to get in on the fun if someone don't head you off at the pass first. And while y'all are at it, you'll probably find out, like Maude and Sallie did, that the Lord never closes one door without opening another.
