What educators are saying

My 8th graders loved this activity. They were able to make connections with the character, their personality, and their life struggles. Will reuse again next year.
This was an awesome resource. It made the students show deep understanding of the characters without making them write or tell them they were thinking. It really gave them a chance to be creative.

Description

The Outsiders Assignment - Tattoo a Greaser is a fun way to skip the traditional character analysis for something more creative and engaging! For this assignment, students will choose a Greaser from The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton and design two tattoos that they might get. Students will have to explain their reasons with support from the text. This creative assignment requires students to show an understanding of symbolism as the tattoos must relate in some way to the Greaser's personality or a theme that emerges in the novel.

Students love this assignment as it allows them to be creative! It also looks great on display in the classroom or on a bulletin board in your school hallway. You will have lots of people stopping to read the students' work!
