What are the seven sacred teachings?

Also sometimes called the seven grandfather teachings, the seven sacred teachings are the basic and universal framework of values for certain Indigenous groups in North America. The seven teachings are love, respect, courage, honesty, wisdom, humility, and truth, and each teaching has an animal that represents the teaching. The teachings encourage individuals to uphold these values in their own lives. (Note: sometimes, the exact animals and teachings vary based on location or Indigenous group. This set aligns with the Anishinaabe teachings and animals.)
