What educators are saying

This was a great resource to use with my students as they were just learning transformations and it gave them lots of extra practice.

    Description

The bundle will help you immensely with 8th grade transformations. Students will learn and explore translations, dilations, rotations and reflections. Included you will find interactive notes, worksheets, stations, a sorting activity and assessments. Below, you will find a detailed description of everything included in this bundle.

Interactive Notes (4 pages & Answer Keys)

This product involves four pages of interactive notes on translations, dilations, rotations and reflections. Each note page provides an opportunity for students to complete the definition, examine and compare the angles and sides of the images, list the pre-image and image coordinates and to describe in words the transformation completed. A graph is provided with the pre-image. Students can use colored pencils to graph the additional images.

Transformation Worksheets (8 pages & Answer Keys)

This product provides two practice worksheets for each transformation. Students are asked to provide a definition in their own words. They are guided to explain what happens when each type of transformation is completed and to explain whether or not the images are congruent to each other. Each worksheet has students graph and list coordinate pairs for the pre-image and images. Students explore true/false, matching, error analysis and real world questions. Practice is provided with graphing and identifying transformations. A short color by answer page is included for translations.

Transformation Stations (6 pages & Answer Keys)

This station activity is used at the end of a transformation unit. As a class, we have explored translations, reflections, rotations and dilations. The stations can be used as an opportunity for students to work collaboratively in order to discuss the problems. I encourage students to use math vocabulary as much as possible. I also take advantage of the opportunity to emphasize positive peer relationships. Students are encouraged to be good listeners and to politely offer other possible solutions if they disagree with a peer. There are four cards for six different stations including the following: translations, reflections, rotations, dilations, transformations and vocabulary. Students are provided answer sheets with mini-graphs for corresponding problems.

Transformation Sort (4 pages & Answer Keys)

This product can be used after students have explored and learned about the four types of transformations: translations, dilations, reflections and rotations. An answer document is provided for students to cut and paste various categories. This could be an excellent individual or partner activity in order to review and make sense of all the transformations. Students are asked to sort pieces into the following categories: definitions, image and pre-image (congruent or not), coordinate notation (two examples), and eight graphs. Students are also asked to create their own pre-image on a graph and coordinate notation for each type of transformation.

Transformation Assessments (4 pages & Answer Keys)

This product includes assessment resources for transformations. Included you will find four half sheet assessments on each of the four transformations (translations, dilations, reflections and rotations). Students are asked to create two new images from the graphed pre-images. Students can be encouraged to list the pre-image points above the table of image points (see answer key for an example). Each assessment asks students to describe what happens when a figure is translated, rotated, reflected or dilated. Students will also need to list and graph the new image points for two problems.
