What educators are saying

Great reading comprehension day for my physical science students when I had to be gone in the middle of out Waves unit.
I used this as homework after taking notes on the types of waves. It was a great review and helped the students understand the material.

Description

This easy to read, one page passage about different types of waves explains:

  • waves are disturbances that transfer energy from one place to another
  • mechanical waves (like sound) must travel through matter while electromagnetic waves (like light) can travel through empty space
  • waves can be described as transverse or longitudinal depending on how they move
  • scientists measure amplitude and wavelength to determine how much energy a wave has

The passage includes 10 multiple choice reading comprehension questions, an answer key, and 2 self-scoring digital versions - EASEL and Google Forms. Color and black and white illustrations are included to accommodate black and white printing.

This passage also has a companion YouTube video. Show the video before or after reading the passage to increase student comprehension. It provides a great modification for students who need a read aloud option with visuals.
