Description

The Unsolved Mysteries Research Project is an inquiry-based, research-skills focused project for middle school ELA and high school English students. Teaching research skills has never been easier using the Big6 Model with a step-by-step approach!

How often do we, as teachers, assign research projects with an assumption that our students know how to conduct research? Unfortunately, many don't, and they copy and paste text from the first site they access.

Students thrive when the research process is structured and well-defined.

Implementation of this project is easy; each research step is reinforced with supporting handouts and clear directions. All the work has been done for you!

Students will have access to an attractive Unsolved Mysteries Google Site featuring a dynamic, interactive photo gallery displaying rotating images representing the unsolved mystery topics. Your students will be instantly engaged!

The research topics include the following intriguing unsolved mysteries:

  • The Mystery of Easter Island
  • Loch Ness Monster
  • Bermuda Triangle
  • Bigfoot
  • UFOs and Aliens
  • Mary Celeste
  • Lost City of Atlantis
  • Stonehenge

Each topic includes access to 6 websites. Three websites provide students with factual information, evidence, photos, or witness accounts, one video or interactive site is included to deepen their knowledge of the topic, and one counterclaim website provides the opportunity to explore an opposing viewpoint or to learn about possible explanations.

Following their research, students will form their own conclusions on the unsolved mystery and create a slide presentation based on their researched findings. A Teacher's Grading Rubric is included!
