Description

Unwrap the meaning of Christmas with these 7 original short One-Act scripts and monologues. All holiday scripts are written for young actors (kids and teens) and can be performed in a socially distanced setting or virtually.

Script Collection Include:

  • The Reluctant Manger
  • Christmas According to the Stars (One-Act AND Monologue)
  • The Break-Up Gift
  • Happy Christmas Tree
  • The Joy Tree
  • Christmas Smile

“These sketches are innovative and fresh. I love what you are doing! Christmas Smile is also innovative. It ‘hooks' your interest and the audience is drawn into the story. The Joy Tree is fun because the characters are interesting and, of course, who doesn't like a good Santa and Elves story?"

- Tom Goodlet, Director of Fine Arts Evangelical Christian School And member of Digital Theatre + US Secondary Theatre Advisory Board

Christmas According to Stars

Characters:

3-6 Stars

Duration:

5 minutes

Setting:

black sky/outer space background

Adaptions: This script comes in two options- as a One-Act and a monologue. All characters can be male or female.

(Monologue)

STAR:

(The star starts with arms stretched out and head down. As monologue progresses, the spotlight gets brighter.)

I’m kind of a shy star. Never really liked the spot light. But here I am, asked to be the guiding light to the Savior of the world. I mean, talk about intimidating? This enormous dark sky and I am just one tiny speckle in it. What if they don’t wanna follow me? What if I lead the wrong people here? What if I’m not bright enough? My dad got burnt out …my mom went blue ——— No it is my time to shine! ——— CONT’D

(Script)

(The Stars stand with arms stretched out and head down)

North Star: (addressing the audience) Well, they may be right. I am kind of a shy star. I may be more of a follower star… I’ve never really had anyone follow me. Not like that guy. Did you know he is part of the Big Dipper constellation? I know right?! Now that is one important star. He is fun to follow. (stars run back on stage)

Star 3: Ok my turn! Let’s practice our shining solos!

North Star: Oh that sounds like fun. I have a little solo I was working on…

Star 3: (laughs) Oh my stars. You are funny. No it is my time to shine! (Starts singing and dancing off. Other stars follow).

North Star: (sighs) Yeah, I guess I never really liked the spot light. This enormous dark sky and I am just one tiny speckle in it. I shine bright but I am not ready to stand out —— CONT’D

Christmas Smile

Characters:

Johnny

Mom

Dental Assistant

Dr. Kringle

Duration:

12-15 minutes

Setting: outside Dentist office, in the lobby, and in the dentist chair

Adaptions:

All roles are gender interchangeable depending on your group of actors. For example: Dr Kringle can have the appearance of Santa or Mrs. Claus. Also props are interchangeable. For example: Johnny could have a stack of papers in the dentist office or actors could use a tablet.

(Script)

Dental Assistant: (Puts down the papers and looks at Johnny) Now the only concern I have Johnny, is have you had any Christmas candy canes for… years?

Johnny: Nope! Not one! My teeth are candy free. See…

(He gives an awkward looking and sounding “smile”. He is unable to fully smile)

Dental Assistant:(speaking into a device) Dr Kringle. We are going to need you in the North Pole 3 room for a case of “crooked Christmas smile”. Thank you.

Johnny: I have a case of what?

Dental Assistant: Don’t worry Johnny. The Dr. will be in shortly. You have nothing to worry about.

Dr Kringle enters the room and waves at Johnny before looking at his paperwork

Dr. Kringle: Good Morning Johnny. I have seen your name on my list for so long. It is very nice to finally meet you.

Johnny: (nervously asks) Your list?

Dental Assistant: Patient list.

The Joy Tree

Characters:

2 elves

St. Nick.

Characters could be dressed as tradition Santa and Elves or you could change it up and have a more modern look for your characters. Elf 1 is an "office manager" type character while Elf 2 is a "rapper"/"wrapper". You can add more elf characters and split lines.

Duration:

8-10 minutes

Setting:

The story begins with two elves taking toys from a sack and placing them under a Christmas tree. Elf 1 is singing. You may add some "comic relief" in the staging and blocking of elves unpacking gifts and stuffing stockings.

Adaptions:

Elves can be male or female characters. St. Nick could also be Mrs. Claus

The Break-Up Gift

Characters:

1 person in a giant wrapped gift box costume

Duration: 3 minutes

Setting: Giant gift box character sitting at a desk with paper and pen (or computer or phone) writing his/her break up letter.

Adaptions: Optional lighting would be to add a silhouette spotlight to the monologue gift character. Play soft dramatic romance track in the background.

The Reluctant Manger

Characters:

A Tree.

Have fun with this character. He/she can be very relatable as a busy teen athlete type, valley girl, preoccupied CEO type...etc. Have fun adding big facial expression, big physical gestures but keep your feet “rooted” where you stand.

Duration: 3- 5 minutes

Setting: Black background, Woods or Forest

Adaptions: Add woodland or lumberjack characters (or stage hands in all black) who come around the tree before the last paragraph of his/her monologue to strip the tree of leaves and help “position” the tree into the final cradle form.

Happy Christmas Tree

Characters:

1 person, Bob Ross (inspired) character with paint pallet in hand standing in front of a canvas of a painted christmas tree.

Duration:

6-8 minutes Setting: Art studio, painting a canvas.

Adaptions:

Optional lighting would be spot light on the character and painting.
