What educators are saying

I used this for my Algebra 2 class. It was great for giving them practice with solving quadratic equations. This practice did not have complex roots. The option to have answers in both fraction or decimal format was a benefit.
Excellent resource for Algebra I & II. Kept my students engaged and they learned. Outstanding resource!

Description

In this fun activity, students solve quadratic equations using the quadratic formula and use their answers to decode a message. The activity includes 15 equations to solve using the quadratic formula.

Students will calculate the solution to each quadratic equation by using the quadratic formula. They will use their answers to decode the hidden message at the bottom of the page.

When they have finished all 15 questions and filled in all the blanks, students will know what was in the locked Briefcase.

Though this can be used as a stand-alone activity, it is also a continuation of an earlier mystery set:

Who Killed Mr Quad: Solving Quadratics by Factoring (Scavenger Hunt) A=1 or

Who Killed Mr. Factor: Solving Quadratics by Factoring A≠1

Solving Quadratric Equations by Completing the Square (Logic Puzzle)

You wont want to miss the conclusion of the mystery as well!

Where is the Villain Hiding: Solving Quadratics by Graphing

All four of these great activities can be purchased as a set at a discounted price!

Solve quadratic equations with real coefficients that have complex solutions.
Solve quadratic equations in one variable.
Solve quadratic equations by inspection (e.g., for 𝘹² = 49), taking square roots, completing the square, the quadratic formula and factoring, as appropriate to the initial form of the equation. Recognize when the quadratic formula gives complex solutions and write them as 𝘢 ± 𝘣𝘪 for real numbers 𝘢 and 𝘣.
