Are your students bouncing off the walls or just mine? Don't get me wrong--I love my students' unending reserve of energy, but we're all happiest when that energy is directed into fun and engaging learning, rather than, say, seeing how convincingly they can fall out of a chair. This has led me to incorporate upbeat games in my classes, and these get students out of their seats (but in a good way). At the end of every school year, I ask my students what they most enjoyed about learning English in my classroom, and each time, I hear the same response: "Vocab Games!" My students often BEG me to pull out these games, and since we began playing them, my students' vocabulary quiz scores have skyrocketed. Almost every one of my students defines 100% of their words correctly every time! These words and definitions stick in their heads for months and even years to come.

If you are a new teacher or feel unsure of how to approach vocabulary games in the classroom, I hope you find these game ideas and instructions helpful!
