Winter Literacy Activity Bundle for Upper Grades

This bundle contains 3 different winter-themed literacy crafts that will keep your students engaged and busy learning throughout the busy season. All three activities are literacy based (reading, language, and writing).

Figurative Language Snowglobes have students defining 6 different figurative language terms (simile, metaphor, personification, onomatopoeia, hyperbole, and idiom). They also write a sentence and draw an illustration showing each type.

Comprehension Snowmen are the perfect complement for students’ independent reading or a read aloud in the classroom. Students will answer a question based on the comprehension strategies of summarizing, inferring, asking questions, synthesizing, making connections, and determining importance.

Penguin Paragraphs have students writing 6 different paragraphs (covering descriptive, narrative, procedural, and informative or expository writing). There is a prompt on each penguin for students to answer.

All three craftivities result in a 3D product that is perfect for display in the classroom or home. Students will LOVE the final result! Each craftivity contains 2 different size options – full sheet size for larger display areas (and longer answers) and half-sheet size for smaller display areas (and slightly shorter answers). Each craftivity also contains blank templates in case you want to add your own question, or have your students come up with their own problems. The blank template can also be used as a book cover in case you want to assemble the craftivities into a book format rather than a 3D craftivity.

Each activity includes a rubric for formative or summative assessment.
