Description

Celebrate winter with this fun and engaging NGSS-aligned STEM activity. Students will use given materials to design and engineer a winter home to house Sam the Snowman. This hands on activity aligns with NGSS Engineering Design 3-5 ETS 1-1 and will have students work together to brainstorm, design, and engineer a home following time and material constraints.

Students will:

  • Work cooperatively to complete a task
  • Use given materials to design a winter home for a snowman
  • Brainstorm and engineer the design following task requirements

This winter science activity includes:

  • 4 student worksheets to plan and design their winter STEM activity, record observations, and answer comprehension questions

This winter STEM activity is aligned with NGSS Engineering Design 3-5 ETS 1-1: Define a simple design problem reflecting a need or a want that includes specified criteria for success and constraints on materials, time, or cost.
