Description
Are you looking for ways to increase your students‘ vocabulary? Word matrix activities are a great way to increase student vocabulary AND strengthen their morphological skills.
Note: If your 5th graders have received morphology instruction in 3rd and 4th grade and are ready for more advanced roots and affixes, this may be too easy for them. See the complete list of bases and roots (at the end of the description) to determine if this is right for you.
About Morphology Word Matrixes
A word matrix shows written morphemes (affixes, roots, and bases) that can be combined to construct words. These visual organizers help students understand the meaning of words and develop stronger vocabularies.
This type of morphology activity will help students begin to notice and learn how affixes affect the meaning of words. This will help students get a better sense of the meaning of the words and the relationship between words that share a base as well as bases and affixes.
*There are 34 word matrixes included in this resource. 24 with bases and 10 with roots. See complete list of bases and roots at the end of the description.
*Multiple printable and digitals versions are included.
*Teaching posters, printable extension activities, and answer keys are also included.
NOTE: A matrix rarely represents all of the words that can be built from a given base or root. The matrices in this resource DO NOT represent all of the words with the given base/root.
