What educators are saying

We used this as an Ice Breaker for our new LEAD day and it was a great beginning activity to use. Students were engaged and enjoyed themselves.
My students found this to be a fun activity. I read this material out loud and we had some great laughter and debates.

Description

"Would You Rather?" Ice Breaker Activity
Christy Plumley

I designed this activity to use on the first day of school to get the students warmed up to eachother and to add a bit of humor to the classroom.

There are 27 questions on this worksheet with choices of A & B- like:

-Would you rather: A) be able to visit 100 years in the past or B) 100 years in the future?
-Would you rather: A) run barefoot over broken glass or B) run barefoot over hot coals?
- Would you rather: A) sit in a tub of spiders for 10 minutes or B) be tickled for 30 minutes straight?

Hang up the included signs for choice A & choice B in two corners of the room when the students come in. In each class I will set a timer and have each student go through and fill out the worksheet on their own. (I would suggest 5-10 minutes depending on the age of the students.)

Once the timer is finished we will gather in the middle of the room with everyone. The teacher will read through each question and have students move to the letter they chose. As an added twist I will have one student volunteer to explain their choice every time a new question is read. Once they explain their choice, as silly as their explanations may be, I will give them a piece of candy for their participation and ask them to be seated.

I think this will be a great opportunity to have the kids let loose and will be fun to hear their justifications for their choices. It will also be fun to have the teacher(s) in the classroom participate too!
