What educators are saying

My students love composing on xylophones. We use this resource during centers and then share our compositions with our classmates.
This has been a great resource to add to centers/stations! It has allowed my students to work with xylophones and composing. My students have loved it!

Description

This xylophone composing station is easy to prepare and easy for students to use to find success. Students lay the cards that contain a xylophone bar on them in 4 groups of 4. Then they play their composition alone or in a group.

The cards contain the pitch name (not on the staff, just the letter) and a picture of the bar they should look for with the letter name on it. Included in this kit are C, D, E, F, G, A, B, high C, high D, high E, high F, high G and high A. Also included is a sheet of quarter rests. Copy these onto the back of the other cards. In this way, students may choose a pitch or a rest to add interest to their composition.

Set-up guide sheets are included for C pentatonic, G pentatonic, D pentatonic and a C diatonic that is called "C major scale" in the directions. Also included in this kit is a sheet for you to print and laminate and place at your workstation. It contains directions for students to follow while working at this center. Two sheets to record compositions are included. One with the treble clef staff and one without.
